Marlene King may have just gifted Pretty Little Liars fans with the best present ever — and no, we’re not talking about “A’s” identity. The Pretty Little Liars showrunner is executive producing a TV adaptation of PLL author Sara Shepard’s latest young adult series The Perfectionists for ABC Family, which means we’ll have yet another show to keep us up all night speculating.

Similar to Pretty Little Liars, The Perfectionists follows five teenage girls as they jokingly plot the murder of handsome womanizer Nolan Hotchkiss. However, things take a deadly turn when Nolan is killed, exactly as they intended — only they had nothing to do with his murder! Now the girls are the prime suspects in his murder, and if they don’t track down the real killer, their perfect lives will come crashing down around them. We can’t be the only ones who have chills reading that synopsis, right?

This marks the third of Sara Shepard’s book series to be turned into ABC Family shows, following Pretty Little Liars and the short-lived The Lying Game. With Marlene at the helm , we think this intriguing teen murder mystery has the potential to be the next Pretty Little Liars — as long as things don’t take a turn for the supernatural (RIP Ravenswood).

Back in May, Sara Shepard chatted with MTV News about the differences between PLL and The Perfectionists. “It’s different from Pretty Little Liars in that the characters in some ways create their own trouble and their own predicament, whereas in Pretty Little Liars, the girls were kind of bullied,” she said. “I think a few of the characters are a lot darker and kind of intriguing in that way. There’s more just really scary stuff going on just right from the get-go.”

Excuse us while we go give this a season pass on our DVR immediately.
