Adam Levine’s band, Maroon 5, has been around since 2001, but the core members have been making music together for even longer than that. In fact, Adam and his bandmates Jesse Carmichael and Mickey Madden, along with original Maroon 5 member Ryan Dusick, started playing music together in high school under the name Kara’s Flowers.

We checked in with Viggle LIVE! users during The Voice’s Season 6 premiere to see how well they know the sexiest coach alive’s musical history. More than half — 54 percent — guessed Kara’s Flowers, while 34 percent thought it was Kara’s Heart and 13 percent thought it was Kelly’s Flowers.

Adam, Mickey, Jesse, and Ryan formed the band while attending Brentwood School in Los Angeles, naming themselves after their favorite groupie. Shortly after their first gig, they were discovered and subsequently signed to Reprise Records. However, after the lackluster performance of their album, they were dropped from their label and nearly broke up.

Despite the disappointment over Kara’s Flowers, the band regrouped in 2000, with a new name and guitarist James Valentine joining the lineup. Maroon 5 has since earned three American Music Awards, three Grammys, and a slew of other awards, so we guess their perseverance paid off!
