Bachelorette 2014’s Eric Hill: Marquel Martin Opens Up About Losing His Friend

As much as we’re enjoying Andi Dorfman’s season of The Bachelorette, a dark cloud hangs over everything because of the tragic loss of Eric Hill. The vibrant man got the first 1-on-1 date of the season, when he and Andi hit the beach and were then transported to Big Bear mountain to snowboard. And while Andi’s date looked unforgettable to us, his castmates are still thinking about eric regularly. Prints charming, Marquel Martin, weighed in on his friendship with Eric on a recent press call.

As relayed by E! Online, Marquel says that his late friend is “greatly missed” by everyone who was on the show. On Eric’s date with Andi, he related stories of his time crossing the border into Syria, among other adventures, and Marquel says that kind of story is typical of what it was like to be with Eric.

"I used to joke around with him because he would tell me a story about one of his adventures, and I swear I told him and I still, to this day, he was the most interesting man that I've ever met personally," Marquel said of the globetrotter, who was in the midst of visiting all 195 U.N.-recognized countries.

At the time that he died, on April 23, Eric had already been eliminated, but filming was carrying on in the Hometown Dates portion of the show. Chris Harrison told Andi and her final four guys, as well as the rest of the cast and crew from the season. "When we got the news that Eric had passed, it very much kind of hit home. My first impression of Eric was that he was just really….his personality translated to what he loved," explains cookie-lover Marquel.

“Just from talking to him, you knew right away that he loved life. Some people may speak in different terms to where you don't really know what they love in life but he genuinely and truly just cared about living and loving life." Eric was also filming a documentary to go with his travels called The Global Odyssey, or GO With Eric, as it was nicknamed.

The 31-year old adventurer passed away after being in a coma following a paragliding accident in Utah. “I have nothing but the upmost respect for him and how he was raised. His family is in my prayers and my condolences go out to them," Marquel concluded.
