Martha Stewart’s Sister Laura Plimpton Dies of Brain Aneurysm at Age 59 (VIDEO)
Martha Stewart and her whole lifestyle empire are mourning the loss of her youngest sister, Laura Plimpton, who passed away at the age of 59 after suffering a brain aneurysm.
Daily Mailreports that Martha sent out an email to her staff announcing the sad news, and the site claims to have a copy of the message.
"My youngest sister, and the youngest of the six Kostyra siblings, Laura Kostyra Plimpton, passed away today in Norwalk Hospital," Martha wrote, per Daily Mail. (Kostyra is Martha's maiden name.)
Laura was a longtime employee of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, having joined her big sister's company after the death of her first husband — helping to run day-to-day operations, writing scripts for Martha's radio show, and appearing in features on the air and online.
"Laura worked for me and the company for more than 25 years," Martha continued. "She was an extraordinary employee, mother, wife, and sister."
The 73-year-old businesswoman wrote that Laura felt ill after working out on the morning of August 4, and Laura's second husband, Randy, rushed to send her to the hospital.
Though Laura didn't recover, Martha praised her sister's decision to be an organ donor: "We are so sad but also happy that Laura had the foresight to donate so many healthy organs to needy people."
Here's sending good thoughts to Laura's family and friends.
