Mary J. Blige Owes IRS Over $3.4 Million in Back Taxes
Mary J. Blige may beg for “no more drama” in song, but it looks like that’s exactly what she has to look forward to, thanks to Uncle Sam.
The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul has just been hit with a $3.4 million tax bill from the state of New Jersey according to TMZ, after failing to pay her taxes in 2009, 2010, and 2011.
Mary, who already owed $900,000 to Jersey for back taxes, is also on the hook for $2.2 million after defaulting on a bank loan, and an additional $250,000 loan taken out by her charity, which was not paid back.
Her excuse for the financial chaos? “The problem is that I didn't have the right people in the right places doing the right things.”
The singer/actress, who released her last album in 2011, has since starred in Rock of Ages and two movies, Betty and Coretta for Lifetime, and the upcoming Black Nativity.
Her net worth, minus a few odds and ends, has been estimated at $45 million, so it looks like Mary better bust out that checkbook.
