Marysol Patton Opens Up About Elsa’s Accident: “I Thought She Was Going to Die”

While most of the stars of the Real Housewives of Miami were thrilled to return for Season 3, it’s been a bittersweet time for Marysol Patton.

Just days before the cast was set to beginning filming back in March, Marysol’s mother, Elsa Patton, suffered a horrifying stroke. “My mom’s household staff [...] found her unconscious on the floor of her bedroom,” Marysol writes in her Bravo blog. “I immediately called 911 and drove over to her home. She was shaking and unable to walk or sit up and her eyes were fixated staring up to left.”

After rushing her mother to the hospital, Marysol learned that Elsa would need an immediate operation to relieve the pressure from the blood that had built up in her brain. After hours of surgery, doctors informed Marysol that her mom had a long road to recovery and would remain in the hospital for several months.

“I thought she was going to die,” Marysol reveals to RadarOnline.

“It is difficult to describe the hurt and fear that I felt,” she adds in her blog. “If I had not had my company to run and the filming of this season, I would have fallen into a horrible depression.”

Following many months in the hospital, Elsa was finally able to return home, where she’s still in recovery today. “She has a nurse living with her 24/7,” Marysol explains. “They cook for her. She can’t walk down the stairs without help because we’re afraid she’ll fall.”

While doctors still don’t know what caused Elsa’s stroke — whether it was “the impact of when she hit the floor or if it was just going to happen” — the tragedy has served to strengthen Marysol’s bond with her mom.

“No matter how much of a pain in the butt your parents can be, you need to spend every moment with them because I almost lost my mom.”

We send our thoughts and prayers to all of Marysol’s family and wish Elsa a speedy recovery!
