Matt Davis Almost Quit The Vampire Diaries For Good — Here’s Why!

Getting killed off The Vampire Diaries is both a blessing and a curse — just ask Matt Davis (Alaric Saltzman). What’s this we hear about the 36-year-old actor almost leaving the hit CW show behind for good?

“It was very uncomfortable for me to come back as a guest star,” the actor told Digital Spy about being killed off and then making sporadic returns. “I felt very much removed and out of sync with the whole experience. I felt awkward, and I thought, ‘I don’t think I can keep saying yes to coming back in these little guest star appearances here and there, [because] it’s just too hard for me emotionally.’”

Sounds like Matt was extremely close to leaving the show behind for good before Julie Plec brought him back as a full-time star for Season 6, having him escape the Other Side in the Season 5 finale. Good thing that happened before he spewed his feels, right?

“I was prepared to have that conversation with Julie, but before I could say anything, she was like, ‘So… we’re thinking about bringing you back — how do you feel about that?’” he continued. “I was thrilled to be able to come back. I had felt very much in limbo with Alaric for the last two seasons. Now I feel like it’s even better than it was before.”

We’re thrilled to have Matt back on the show — thank goodness he didn’t close the door on Alaric for good!
