With his busy career as an actor, Matthew McConaughey’s time to instill lifelong values as a dad to his three children, Levi, Vida, and Livingston, is limited. Thankfully, he’s figured out a good way to combine the two and allow his children to watch him at work as a way to teach them important life lessons.
And now that the kids are beginning to understand more and more of what they see on TV, they’re wondering what exactly it is that their dad does. Matthew, and his wife, Camila Alves, are trying to do their best to explain in kid terms.
“They understand that Papa goes to work, that there’s a difference in reality and movies, and that he can be in more than one place at a time,” Matthew shared in the press room at the Oscars after he won the award for Best Actor on Sunday, according to E! Online.
And for the kids to truly have a handle on what their dad does, Matthew takes them to work with him. Most recently, the five-year-old Levi had a turn visiting dad’s office. “I took Levi to set on Lincoln Lawyer and let him watch a scene and then let him watch it on the monitor,” Matthew shared. “For him, it was a magic trick. You can be in more than one place at one time.”
And teaching them how hard work pays off is another benefit Matthew and Camila have found this awards season.
“This season, where you’re going, ‘We’re going out tonight because there’s an award show. Remember when we were back in New Orleans and lived in that house? The work that dad did then, the work we all did, people are shining a light on it today, so if you do your best right now, it can have reciprocity later and come back and pay residuals,’” the 44-year-old Dallas Buyers Club actor said. “That’s the lesson we’re trying to get to them.”
