Seems like Mekhi Phifer's accountants are calling "code blue" on the ER alum's finances. TMZ reports that Mekhi filed for bankruptcy in late April.
Apparently, the 39-year-old actor has $1.3 million of debt but only $67,000 in assets — which sounds pretty dire.
The site touts that his assets include a leather bed, a few firearms, and a 12-year-old Segway.
Back taxes accounts for the vast majority of that debt, followed by lawyers' bills and child support. (He has two sons from prior relationships.)
As TMZ notes, however, Mekhi has been in the red for a while now — pulling in $7,500 per month but spending $11,600.
Mekhi starred as Dr. Gregory Platt on eight seasons of ER. Other notable roles include Lie to Me and House of Lies on the small screen and 8 Mile, O, and Dawn of the Dead on the silver screen.
But the Harlem native's career is hardly flatlining these days. He portrayed Dauntless leader Max in Divergent this year and is gearing up to reprise the role in Insurgent.
We like Mekhi and hope he gets back on his feet again soon. But honestly, who sleeps on leather?
