For most kids, parents are constant cheerleaders, framing finger paintings and telling them that your babysitting job is the greatest career choice they’ve ever heard.

As an actor, parents have to muster enthusiasm about the direction your career will take, whether you’re still a babysitter by day, or you’re getting tied up on screen.

Luckily for Dakota Johnson, who was recently cast as Anastasia Steele in the big screen adaptation of E.L. James’ Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, she’s got just the kind of supportive family that will enjoy all the bondage action from the front row.

Dakota’s mother, actress Melanie Griffith, shared her excitement over her daughter’s upcoming role with her followers, tweeting, “My beautiful child Dakota has been chosen to play Anna (sic) Steele in 50 Shades!!! Look out world! Here she comes!!! #proudmama.”

Dakota’s role in the trilogy was announced by the series creator on Twitter yesterday, as was the role of Christian Grey, who will be played by Sons of Anarchy Star Charlie Hunnam.

While many fans balked at the casting choices, based, in part, on the higher-profile stars who were reportedly competing for the part, those involved in assembling the cast defended their choices.

“There is a lot that goes into casting that isn't just looks. Talent, availability, their desire to do it, chemistry with other actor, etc.,” producer Dana Brunetti tweeted. “So if your favorite wasn't cast, then it is most likely due to something on that list. Keep that in mind while hating and keep perspective."

Fifty Shades of Grey is due in theaters in 2014.
