During the June 23 episode of Real Housewives of New Jersey, songbird Melissa Gorga faced the tough decision of whether or not she would include her parents’ marriage in her memoir/advice book, Love Italian Style: The Secrets of My Hot and Happy Marriage. While Melissa had a happy childhood, she recounted that her father often cheated on her mother, something which affected their family.
In her BravoTV blog, the Garden State gal opened up on the difficult decision to write about her parents’ marriage, and her father’s infidelities.
“He was an incredible man, a loving father, and a great provider. As a husband, he wasn’t the best. It was a hard decision to write about him. But Love Italian Style is about my marriage, and my parents’ marriage is part of that story,” Melissa wrote. “The heartbreaks of those years made me who I am now.”
The first chapter of Mel’s book, entitled “The First Man in My Life,” is about her father and how she looked for a partner like in some ways, and unlike him in others, adding that she “found that man and more in Joe [Gorga].” Aww.
Of course the writing process wasn’t easy. On the show, Melissa broke down in tears just looking at old photographs of her father, and she went through it all over again when she started putting pen to paper.
“As necessary as it was to bring up those memories, it was painful as hell,” Melissa said. The Italian mama “struggled” trying to translate her emotions, however, she did a good job as her book is getting ready for nationwide release later this year.
