Meryl Streep Talks Emma Thompson’s Oscar Snub, Calls Herself “Old News” (VIDEO)

Meryl Streep may be celebrating her own Oscar nomination for her performance in August: Osage County, but it doesn’t mean she’s forgotten her good friend, Emma Thompson, who, surprisingly enough, didn’t get nominated at all for her role in Saving Mr. Banks.

“I was dead asleep — late — because I didn’t think I had a chance,” Meryl admitted to Ellen DeGeneres Monday when she stopped by her show. “You read the papers and they say, ‘Oh, she doesn’t have a chance,’ … because I’m so old news.”

Meryl Streep, old news? Not even. Okay, maybe it’s not even close to her top cinematic achievements, but we’re still quoting The Devil Wears Prada. Florals, for spring? Groundbreaking.

And Meryl was more shocked than we were when Ellen, who will be hosting the awards when they air March 2, pointed out that Meryl’s won 119 awards in her career.

But even though Meryl’s often recognized for her talent, she hates that Emma wasn’t nominated this year.

“I was really shocked,” Meryl said. “I wrote her a long, heartfelt e-mail saying, you know, how bad I felt, and she wrote me back and said, ‘good.’”

We’re pretty surprised Emma wasn’t nominated, too — something Meryl calls an “injustice” — especially since Saving Mr. Banks was one of our favorite movies this year!

So, will Meryl go home with the Oscar this year? March isn’t so far away!
