Miley Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball” video has led to dozens if not hundreds of parodies, but we have to say Hulk Hogan’s spoof takes the cake when it comes to, um, out-of-the-box thinking. As a semi-retired professional wrestler, Hulk, who turned 60 in August, is no stranger to Spandex. But a thong? Now we’ve seen it all.
Hulk decided to parody Miley’s music video for his new web hosting company, Hostamania. Think GoDaddy.com but with aged wrestlers in black thongs rather than hot girls in tight t-shirts. Or, as the Hulk puts it, “I’m stepping in to the web hosting ring, and I’m getting ready to leg drop the competition.”
The one-minute ad begins with Hulk coloring a picture of himself and eating what look to be red and yellow M&Ms. An order for 200 million new hosting orders arrives and then, suddenly, a buff dude is hanging from the ceiling and eating a red crayon.
Annoyed, Hulk leaves the scene only to ride in on a wrecking ball in full wrestling regalia including feather boa and, of course, that inexcusable black thong. The crayon-eater is toppled, Hulk celebrates by slapping his own thigh, a patriotic power ballad plays, and we scratch our heads and wonder what this has to do with web hosting.
As a final touch, the video concludes with a “directed by” frame just like the one at the end of “Wrecking Ball.” Surprisingly, Terry Richardson was not behind this latest controversial series of images burned into our brains.
