Say what you will about Miley Cyrus’s new lease on life — and we’ve said our fair share — but the twerking 20-year-old is doing something right from a business point of view. Her new album, Bangerz, just dropped last week and it has already rocketed to the number one spot on iTunes and both Billboard's Top 200 and Digital Album Charts lists.
A press release from RCA Records proudly trumpets the good news for the label’s reigning records queen. Strap in, everybody. A lot of numbers are coming your way.
During its first week, Bangerz sold more than 270,000 albums and 426,000 tracks. Miley’s scored the #1 spot on iTunes in more than 70 countries and Bangerz is the top record in Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. Actually, Miley’s got a double number one in the UK with her single “Wrecking Ball” at the top of the country’s charts.
You’ll also find the record in the top 10 in at least a dozen other international markets including for the nations of Switzerland, New Zealand, and Argentina. Felicitaciones, Señorita Cyrus.
Miley’s no stranger to being on top with a total of five number one albums to her name. Still, the success of Bangerz far exceeds some of Miley’s earlier work. This past week alone has been her biggest sales week since 2008 — if you don’t count Hannah Montana. And, really, who does anymore?
