Miley Cyrus seems a bit out of character in a new ad for the Marc Jacobs Spring 2014 campaign. For one, she's frowning. She's also rocking much darker locks. And — most shockingly of all — she's covered up by clothing.

For the photos, shot by David Sims, Miley frowns as she lazes on a desolate beach along with models Natalie Westling and Esmerelda Seay Reynolds. She wears Marc Jacobs' doubleface wool victorian jacket and doubleface wool board shorts — both of which can be yours for only $5,200 — completing the look with the line's Arianna embellished sneakers.

"We wanted this beach with girls kind of sulky and broody, and we thought it would be cool if it was Miley with what could be two friends, feeling distant and quite dark," Marc tells Women's Wear Daily.

Seems to us like a scene from The Hangover Part IV if directed by Terrence Malick, but anyway…

Marc is an ardent supporter of Miley, saying, "We all just love her and her entire being, her energy, her talent, her intelligence, everything," — but his usual go-to photographer, Juergen Teller, is not.

"I have worked with Juergen for years and love him as an artist," Marc elaborates. "He just didn’t want to shoot her." (Juergen, by the way, just photographed Jennifer Lawrence for the magazine cover.)

Well, haters to the left! We're liking this emo side of the Party Queen.
