Miley Cyrus might be receiving a lot of flack lately for her recent behavior — topless photos, anyone? — but there are people who are willing to stand up for her decisions. One of her biggest advocators is Shailene Woodley, who thinks people are having the wrong reaction to everything Miley does.
In Shailene’s interview for her Vanity Fair cover (July 2014 issue, guys!), she spends a lot of time defending Miley, and actually, what she says makes a lot of sense. Maybe she should be Miley’s new rep?
“Miley isn’t rude or mean or cruel to anyone in her actions. She just does herself,” Shailene reasons. “And regardless of whether you agree with what she’s doing or not, it’s none of your business what she does.”
True — although Miley does often go out of her way to make sure it is our business. But that’s not the point of what Shailene’s saying. The point is that if Miley likes to walk around with her tongue out and shock us on stage, who cares? It’s what she wants to do, and in the end, it doesn’t affect us all that much.
“She’s not in the world doing mean things,” the 22-year-old The Fault in Our Stars actress continues. “Why are all these parents or all these people freaking out about Miley being herself? If you don’t want your kids to watch it, you know, you can change the situation at home, but don’t make a big deal of what she’s doing. Make a big deal about the bullies at school who are beating kids up.”
Well said, Shailene!
