Miley Cyrus put the spotlight on the problem of teen transients when she brought a formerly homeless guy to the VMAs, but in the process, she alerted authorities to the whereabouts of a person of interest — her date, 22-year-old Jesse Helt. Turns out blondie-locks had a warrant for his arrest out of Oregon, and the powers that be were pretty grateful to Miley for finding their Waldo for them.

This may be Fugitive 101 advice here, but if you’re trying to stay under the radar, maybe don’t get up on stage at a nationally televised event. Also, don’t  attend said event on the arm of one of the most famous pop stars in the country who can’t go anywhere without paparazzi snapping an incriminating photo montage, mmmkay? Just sayin. Although hey, we don't know the whole story surrounding Jesse's departure from his hometown, so we'll withhold some judgment.

With Miley’s spotlight firmly aimed his way, Jesse turned himself in to Polk County Jail in Dallas, Oregon on Thursday after being gifted a plane ticket home from the "Wrecking Ball" singer. According to NBC News, he walked in just before 8pm, paid $2,500 bond, and was released around 8:50pm. That’s a pretty short stint — did he go through the drive-thru?

Jesse did hang around long enough to get a shiny new mugshot. He was wanted for failing to report to a probation officer after serving jail time for drug-related burglary charges.

Here’s hoping he gets the charges taken care of and moves on to bigger and better things!

Do you think Jesse did the right thing by turning himself in? Give us your take in the comments.
