There’s no denying that Miranda Kerr is a supermodel, née, a super-mom. She proved her super powers in 2011 when she gave birth to Flynn, her 10-pound baby boy with then-husband Orlando Bloom, without an epidural. What’s even more shocking is that just two months after Miranda delivered her first child, she walked the Balenciaga runway in all of her slim glory. So how did she do it?
For starters, Miranda didn’t pressure herself to get back in shape so quickly. “I was focused on having a healthy baby — and I had a 10-pound baby!” she says in the June/July issue of Lucky magazine. Aside from standard exercise (and good genes!), Miranda was dedicated to breastfeeding her son, and boy did it pay off!
“I just loved breast-feeding. It was something that came very easily to me and it helped speed up my metabolism,” she continues. “I nursed for a year and a half, and I pumped when I was at work.”
As a first-time mother, Miranda also made sure to cut back on her busy modeling schedule and vowed to “work smarter, not harder” so she could focus on her new priority: her 3-year-old son. “Before him, I’d work six days in a row and really enjoy it,” the 31-year-old says. “Now my career has grown into something more.”
Miranda goes on to explain that if a job only requires her to be away from Flynn for a few days, she’ll go alone, but if it’s a longer trip, Flynn’s her plus one. “I’ve found that routine is very important for children,” she added. “Even though they’re quite malleable, they do feel safe in their schedule.
“Life can get so busy for everyone, regardless of what your profession is, but it’s taking the time to have moments of gratitude that makes it meaningful,” Miranda goes on to say. “And it does take discipline, a consciousness to do that. Being grateful and happy is a choice, I think.”
Even though Miranda and Orlando have split, they still manage to co-parent to the best of their abilities, and it shows! Not only do these two speak every day, but they have nothing but loving words to say about one another. How sweet!
For now, Flynn is the only man in Miranda’s life and, quite frankly, he seems like the perfect little gentleman! “Motherhood is the best,” Miranda gushes. “It’s rewarding to see a little being develop and to grow into an individual. Flynn makes me laugh so much. We have the same sense of humor, which no one else understands. I’ll look at something and laugh, and then he’ll laugh, and it’s so contagious.”
