Things are going well for the Robertson family from A&E’s Duck Dynasty. Despite patriarch Phil’s controversial anti-gay comments in GQ last month, the show’s ratings remain solid. Plus, these days they’ve got another scandal-immersed reality star (The Bachelor’s Juan Pablo Galavis) to take the heat off of them.
But how are things going for the family behind the scenes? Missy Robertson, Phil’s daughter-in-law (his son Jase’s wife), is now sharing what it was like for her family right after Phil was suspended, and how the show’s fans helped them through it all.
Missy, who has been busy launching her own clothing line, was in the middle of an all-day shoot when news broke of her father-in-law’s remarks — among them, that homosexuality is “just not logical,” and that it’s a sin akin to beastiality. So what was her reaction when she found out?
“After it sunk in a minute, my initial reaction was, ‘Is Kay [Phil’s wife] going to move to the end of the table and say the blessing?’” she tells FOX11 in an interview. “We both chuckled at that thought.” Seems like even his own family knows Phil is better off not speaking out for a while!
As for the Duck Dynasty fans, they clearly aren’t going anywhere, and it’s their support that’s been guiding Missy and her family of late. “Our fans are truly passionate!” she says excitedly. “People have called to me from the open windows of their cars, across parking lots, in the grocery store, at the mall, just about everywhere I go in public.” Sounds like they’re pretty dedicated!
According to Missy, not everyone is as critical of the Robertson’s strict Christian family values as has been portrayed in the media. “[People] make a point in letting us know that they support our family 100 percent and appreciate our taking a stand for Christianity in a public way. They also tell us that they are praying for us to stay strong and to not waiver from our values.”
It’s that support that Jase and Missy have needed recently when their young daughter Mia went in for surgery to correct her cleft:
“Both of us have received hundreds of personal messages on our social media sites letting us know that we are in their thoughts and prayers, and Mia has received quite a few cards and small gifts of encouragement as well.”
For those still on board with the show, the mother of three promises that Duck Dynasty will have “even more silly situations” this season. And be sure to tune in for the season finale, she emphasizes, as “it will highlight some really sweet and tender family moments.”
Catch a new episode of Duck Dynasty when it airs tonight (January 22) at 10 p.m. ET on A&E.
