Gloria Pritchett's thick Colombian accent is one of Modern Family's most hilarious punchlines — but is Sofia Vergara faking it?

We're happy to report that it's the real thing! "I've been here for 16 years, but I can't get rid of my accent," Colombian-born Sofia complained to Ellen Degeneres. "I've tried, but I'm too old!"

Find yourself wishing Modern Family provided subtitles for Gloria on occasion? That's okay. Sofia, who actually attended a bilingual school in Colombia, knows how you feel. "Sometimes I talk and even I don't understand what I said!" she revealed. "I wait to see if the person understood, because I didn't understand. I just move on anyway."

But there is something about Sofia that isn't real (hey, eyes up here — the voluptuous bod is 100 percent natural, says Sofia): Her luscious brown hair is a lie. "I'm a natural blonde. But when I started acting, I would go to auditions and they didn't know where to put me because I was voluptuous and had the accent — but I had blonde hair," she told Self magazine. "The moment I dyed my hair dark, it was, 'Oh, she's the hot Latin girl.' I loved it. I'd always felt a little 'too much' as a blonde, like a big-mouth version of Pamela Anderson. Being brunette toned me down a bit."
