Melissa Behnken was enjoying her family’s first trip to the happiest place on earth, otherwise known as Disneyland in Anaheim, California, when a staffer requested something that she found completely out of line.
According to WPTV San Diego, an older park employee approached Melissa at the front gates of Disney’s California Adventure Park and said, “You need to pull your top up.” The staff member then added, “This is a family park. You are showing too much.”
Melissa says that both she and her 9-year-old daughter, Hailey, were astounded by the request. The upset mom filled out a report at the park complaining about the employee’s comment, and followed up by filing a more formal complaint online when the family returned home.
A week later, Melissa contacted WPTV, explaining, “This was our first family vacation and for me, it was ruined." In photos provided to the station by Melissa, one can clearly see that her outfit is in no way suggestive.
Adding insult to injury, Melissa’s husband is in the U.S. Marine Corps, and she says that the family waited a long time for him to return from deployment so they can make their first trip to the theme park together.
"Maybe they need to do more exclusive training on what is OK to say to people that come there," Melissa added. Soon after the WTPV reached out to Disneyland for a comment, a spokesperson for the park called the family to apologize for the employee’s remarks.
Do you think this mom exposed too much skin, or was the employee out of line?
