Mom Harassed For Breastfeeding 16-Day-Old Baby at Neighborhood Rec Center (VIDEO)

Some people really need to learn their manners, and the law.

Lucy Eades was nursing her 16-day-old daughter at the Burleson Rec Center in Burleson, Texas, when a female staff member tried to stop her, saying that Lucy was causing a problem because she was too exposed.

Lucy understandably became irritated with the woman, arguing with her about her rights. Things quickly became heated, with Lucy continuing to feed her baby, and the staff member saying she had alerted authorities. Luckily, Lucy’s husband Joel was there to capture all of the action on video.

The city of Burleson, which was hosting a camp for 5- to 13-year-olds that day, released the following statement:

To be respectful of everyone's rights we asked the women to cover up. There is nothing in the law that prohibits the city from requiring a mother to cover up. We also offered a room in an attempt to be more accommodative. The city did not attempt to prohibit breastfeeding and we fully support the freedom of mothers to breastfeed as long as it doesn't infringe on someone else's freedom.

Sounds a bit fishy to us — we’re not exactly sure what ‘freedoms’ it would infringe on if kids saw a mother breastfeeding her newborn. Also, we really have to wonder how a place that bills itself as a center for families could be so hostile to a nursing mom.

What do you think, moms? Have you ever been discriminated against for breastfeeding, asked to cover up or leave a public place?
