Some New York soccer moms are feeling the burn of outrage at college coeds baring their, er... assets in order to suntan at their residential playground/common area.
Stuyvesant Town tenants are outraged that the sun worshippers are sporting teeny bikinis while they tan. The college students, on the other hand, claim that the high rent they pay allows them the same access as everyone else.
According to Susan Steinberg, head of the tenant’s association, “This used to be a very strait-laced community. The sunbathing is tasteless, it’s not very classy, and it doesn’t belong in a mixed residential development.”
The Stuyvesant Town Report first made parents aware of the goings on at Playground 10, including reports of “a lot of side boob.” The playground is actually an artificial lawn that we assume is for use by all residents of the development, whether they have kids or not.
The New York Post reports that ”two dozen scantily clad young women" who tanned outside last Friday have angered neighbors. Security guards even had the nerve to ask the tanners to leave after receiving complaints.
But residents like college graduate Kate Freidman, 23, say she’s not going quietly. “A body’s a body, and they need to get over themselves. I pay just as much rent as they do. Just because I don’t have a child doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be able to be here.”
It sounds like a new green area will be open at the residential complex in a few weeks, so hopefully this will not end in more disputes, although this impassioned online plea from a mom, “Think of the children!," has us a little worried.
