NBC’s WLEX-TV reports that three people have died after a medical helicopter crashed Thursday evening in Clay County, Kentucky.
Officials say that the Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter crashed into the elementary school parking lot at about 11:30 p.m. eastern time, near the landing area for the helicopter. The accident happened shortly after transferring a patient to a hospital in nearby Laurel County. Sadly the crash killed all three crew members on board.
The grade school was undamaged, but officials report that a power line was hit. Witnesses said there was fog in the area at the time. On the company’s Facebook page, Air Evac confirmed the fatalities.
The Air Evac Lifeteam statement said, “We are devastated at the loss of these crew members who we consider family. We have no details regarding the cause of the accident but will be working with the NTSB in coming days as they conduct their investigation.”
