Before you knock the fact that the whites in James Wilkie Broderick’s monochromatic suit don’t match (we’re looking at you, Suri’s Burn Book), take a moment to think back to the history surrounding his fashion choice. You’ll see why, overall, his was a genius modern twist on a classic.
As far back as we can remember, the first stud to pull off the white suit was that scoundrel Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind, and boy did he look marvelous standing next to the little farm girl Scarlett. A true vision of masculinity. Speaking of masculinity, next came John Travolta’s three-piece white ensemble in Saturday Night Fever, accented with a black dress shirt. Is it getting hot in here? Then we have a few others like Colonel Sanders’ signature suit, the countless white suits worn by Michael Jackson throughout his career, and the suit of choice worn by Morgan Freeman portraying God in Bruce, Almighty.
Now, if God dares to wear a white suit, that must say something! Indeed, we love James’ daring choice, and his checkered shirt and striped tie give his outfit the perfect youthful update. Mom Sarah Jessica Parker and dad Matthew Broderick must be proud of their fashion-forward son. After all, he has to do something drastic to upstage his twin sisters Tabitha and Marion!
