Pregnant Kate Middleton is in the final stages of nesting, readying for the arrival of the newest heir or heiress to the British throne. But before the Duchess of Cambridge gives birth to the royal baby, she’s going to need to feather her nest by decorating the nursery.
In the case of the classically stylish duchess, who made her last official pre-baby appearance recently, she’s reportedly going to have two nurseries: one at her newly renovated apartment at Kensington Palace, and another at her parents' home in the small English town of Buckleberry, where Kate and the baby will be spending quite a bit of time with mom Carole Middleton after the birth.
ABC News royals contributor Victoria Murphy shared her insights on Kate’s style, pointing out that the duchess’s type of decorating is very similar to the way she dresses. Murphy explains, “She likes very classic... very simple things, clean lines that are very elegant.”
The duchess and her mother were recently seen with a straw Moses basket, which retails for $450, and suggests a more traditional nursery vibe. Kate has also been seen shopping at chic London boutiques for items such as rugs, drapes, and pillows, reportedly in a classic herringbone pattern.
While the duchess has purchased some upscale things, don’t expect her to go overboard investing in high-priced baby bling. Murphy says, “She does like a bargain, we know that she’s haggled for antique things in markets. We know that she visits outlet stores.” Indeed, we know that some of her favorite frocks are from retail chains like Topshop.
However, the duchess did plunk down some change for one high-end investment, and it’s something every mom can appreciate: a fancy stroller. The neutrally hued Bugaboo brand chameleon is royal blue with chic stripes, and retails for around $1,800. Considered a unisex design, it’s perfect for Will and Kate, since they’ve decided not to find out the baby’s gender beforehand.
High end boutiques like UK’s ‘baby store to the stars’ Giggle said that they expect what they’re now calling “the Kate stroller,” and anything else the duchess chooses, to sell out quickly. “The colors she picks, the items in the nursery, they’re all going to be hot ticket items,” said Jackie Courlas, head of sales at the trendy boutique.
We can’t wait to see what she chooses!
