As Lindsay Lohan prepares to complete her rehab stint, her mom Dina Lohan is feeling good about her recovery.
Wetpaint Moms caught up with Dina at Jill Zarin’s first annual Luxury Ladies’ Luncheon presented by the European Wax Center on Saturday and asked her about Lindsay’s progress and how she’s dealt with having a child in the spotlight.
“She’s in a great, healthy place,” Dina says of her 27-year-old daughter.
The troubled actress is reported to be leaving treatment at Cliffside Malibu in early August. Following her rehab stay, Lindsay will star in an eight-part docu-series on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network, which will chronicle her recovery and her quest to rebuild her career. She will also sit down with Oprah for her first post-rehab interview in August.
The relentless media attention surrounding Lindsay’s downward spiral couldn’t have been easy for a mom to watch. The toughest part of raising a famous child? “How the media can turn on you so quickly,” says Dina. “How mean they can get. They take a small little thing and make it into something it’s not.”
It hasn’t only been Lindsay in the spotlight: Dina has also endured her fair share of media scrutiny around her choices as a parent.
When asked about the greatest misconceptions of her family life, she says, “Oh my goodness, there are so many. You know, we’re just a normal family. My kids, I raised them all pretty much by myself. And they’re all so wonderful and so successful. I think that’s the biggest misconception. People think I just have Lindsay and I crack a whip on her or something. No, I have four kids, not one, and I’m proud of all of them.”
