"Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4.24pm," the Clarence House Twitter account reads. "The baby weighs 8lbs 6oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth."
Both mother and son are doing well. "Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well and will remain in hospital overnight," reads a follow-up tweet. "The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry & families have been told and are delighted."
Congratulations are in order for the new mom and dad — the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge — and welcome to the world, his Royal Highness Prince of Cambridge!
The precious royal bundle of joy has been a major topic of discussion since Kate Middleton officially announced her pregnancy in early December. Since then, her baby bump fashion has been coveted, her quotes have been analyzed (did she say she’s having a girl?), and the press has gone wild over pretty much every little detail. The world ruthlessly drank up each update from the palace about what the royal baby’s title would be and where he or she would fall in the line of succession to the throne.
Today, Royal Baby Bump Watch ’13 has come to an end, but we are anxious to catch the first glimpse of the babe with his parents on the steps of St. Mary's hospital in London, just like Princess Diana did with William back in 1982.
