Radiant new mother Kate Middleton made a significant fashion choice as she stepped out of the hospital for the big royal baby reveal late Tuesday morning. Dressed in a beautiful blue Jenny Packham dress with white polka dots, Kate made what could be a nod to the late Princess Diana’s choice of a teal dress with a white collar and polka dots on the day she emerged fromSt. Mary’s Hospital with baby William in 1982.
Diana’s death in 1997 was not only a shock to the world, but of course it impacted her young sons William and Harry — then 15 and 13, respectively — immensely. As William has chosen the woman he will spend the rest of his life with, he has been making a point to honor his late mother however he can.
When he proposed to Kate Middleton in 2010, he presented her with his mother’s impressive sapphire engagement ring. Then, when the couple was wed in 2011, the last hymn that was sung at Princess Diana’s funeral was played as the first hymn at the wedding ceremony. Sir Elton John was also present on the momentous day — a significant guest as he sang “Candle in the Wind” at Diana’s funeral.
The baby boy’s name is the next big reveal to come, and as the betting pools continue to grow, top choices George and James are trailed closely in an 8th place tie by Diana’s last name Spencer with 25-1 odds.
This possible tribute to her late mother-in-law is a wonderful little detail added to the already exciting reveal of Kate’s son, His Royal Highness the Prince of Cambridge. We look forward to hearing the big name announcement soon!
