Gwyneth Paltrow is one busy lady, but she took some time out recently to talk health and fitness in a column for the UK Telegraph, and it left us with some interesting observations.
First, Gwyneth revealed that she had to learn how to make exercise a habit. We found it gratifying to know that this hardbody goddess, who seems so completely disciplined about her fitness, had trouble finding her motivation at first. It sounds like she got some high-level coaching from exercise guru and business partner Tracy Anderson, who helped her make regular exercise a five times per week habit.
While Gwyneth is no stranger to extreme diet and fitness techniques, she has had at least one horror story. “I’ve done juice cleanses in the past,” she said, “and in my twenties I did the Master Cleanse, which left me hallucinating after 10 days. Be aware: a juice detox can crash your metabolism and lead to future weight gain.”
It’s good to know the online empire-builder has come to her senses, although the Elimination Diet doesn’t seem that much easier! But the results do speak for themselves. However, it’s nice to know that the seemingly perfect star is just a regular human after all.
The rest of her advice — have healthy snacks on hand, measure yourself versus weighing yourself — is really nothing too new, but we do like to hear that she will sometimes ‘cheat’ to help her stay on track.
“I often have a glass of red wine in the evening and smoke a cigarette on a Saturday,” she said. “I love those moments because they are just the right amount of naughty.”
