One mom in Michigan is feeling the pressure of 13 doses of testosterone from her husband and 12 children, all of which are boys! Teri and Jay Schwandt told Matt Lauer that they have been trying for a baby girl since their first few boys came down the pipeline, as it were, but after the 12th boy was revealed, they have called it quits.
“We assumed that if we had any more it was just going to be more boys,” Teri told Today.
The couple has been married since they were 18 and Teri has been pregnant off and on for the past 22 years! They welcomed their first child in college — Tyler is now 21 — and they recently brought home their 12th son Tucker a few weeks ago. He is welcomed by Tyler and the rest of the brood: Zack, 17; Drew, 16; Brandon, 14; Tommy, 11; Vinny, 10; Calvin, 8; Gabe, 6; Wesley, 5; Charlie, 3; and Luke, 19 months.
Jay said, “We were getting ready to leave the hospital and I said 12. Twelve kids, that’s crazy.”
Teri is one of 14 in her family, and one of her sisters has 10 sons. You may think this luck runs in her family, but since it’s the male’s genes that determine the sex of a baby, Teri can thank Jay for the abundance of boys. We hope the boys love sports, because as Matt points out, “Well, you have now got three entire golf foursomes. You have a whole baseball team with three in the bull pen, which is great.”
