That first glimpse of the royal baby swaddled in Kate Middleton’s arms was the highlight of our summer so far. (What, don’t laugh!) His little wave to the crowd and his proud papa Prince William carrying him in a car seat and driving off the Kensington Palace were definitely second and third. So it’s safe to say we are incredibly excited for the next peek at Prince George, and a palace source tells People that the moment may not be too far off!

It’s an age-old tradition that the first printed images of a new royal baby are taken by a professional, but it seems that Kate and Wills are actually considering sharing some personal family snapshots before they sit in front of a professional.

Could you imagine the first images of Prince George on Twitter? That would be so freaking cool!

"The whole point of these photos is that as many people have access to them who need to and we will find the easiest way of doing that," the source tells People. They report that the images would be released to social media outlets as well as posted on the couple’s website.

A source for the Daily Mirror also claims that the photos could be released on the Kensington Palace Twitter feed as early as next week. Although that’s just a rumor, you might want to go ahead and follow @ClarenceHouse if you’re not already!

While it would be totally unheard of to spread personal photos before the official royal portrait, we’d almost expect it from the Duchess of Cambridge. After all, she has proved herself to be quite the royal rule breaker already, announcing the baby’s birth on Twitter and opting out of a nurse in favor of taking care of the child herself with the help of her royal hubby.

This means we may be seeing shots of Prince George far before his christening, which is rumored to be taking place this fall, but if for some reason they choose to withhold the personal shots from the world, the professional portrait would be taken around this time by a wire service.

Regardless of which form of pictures they choose to release, we can’t wait — although we’re obviously pulling for candid. We’d love to see baby George relaxed, surrounded by his Auntie Pippa and Grandma and Grandpa Middleton as opposed to a stuffy posed portrait.

How about you, moms? Are you as excited as we are about the possible twitpics of Prince George?
