Falling squarely in the “every parent’s worst nightmare” category, a Houston couple was horrified to learn that someone had hacked their baby monitor. Even worse, the man was talking to their baby, Allyson, when they entered the room. Creepy!
According to their local FOX station, “The father in northwest Harris County says he and his wife heard a detached voiced saying sexual things to their 2-year-old daughter and it was coming from her room.”
According to Allyson’s dad, Marc Gilbert, the man he heard coming from the camera was saying, 'Wake up Allyson, you little (expletive).” The offender had apparently read the little girl’s name on a wall decoration.
The father suspects that the perpetrator had somehow hacked into their internet camera, which they had been using to watch the two toddlers in their rooms, as well as their router. As one might suspect, the Gilberts felt completely violated by this unspeakable act.
"It felt like somebody broke into our house," Mr. Gilbert said.
While Mr. Gilbert goes on to call the incident “embarrassing,” he wants to ensure this doesn’t happen to any other parents.
"As a father, I'm supposed to protect her against people like this,” Mr. Gilbert said. He went to note that “it's not going to happen again.”
Ironically, Allyson was born deaf and her cochlear implants were turned off, so she (fortunately!) didn’t hear a thing.
The FOX article notes that computer experts recommend following all the security recommendations for these internet cameras along with securing home networks to the fullest extent.
