As a mother of two children already, Susana Privada was not a novice to giving birth, nor to the warning signs that indicate it’s time to take a trip to the hospital. After experiencing a few labor pains at home, Susana decided to take a quick shower and then head to the hospital, just to make sure everything was alright. She got through the front doors, but didn’t make it past the front desk before giving birth right there on the hospital floor!
"I just ask for the wheelchair, but I say at the same time, 'It's out, it's out,'" Susana explained to WSVN.
The baby’s father was by her side, and he helped to ease her to the floor as soon as Susana felt things progressing. There were no doctors around, but thankfully a nurse who was about to start his shift was just coming into the lobby, and was able to help deliver the baby.
"As soon as I have it in my hands,” said Nurse Libardo Lozada, “I noticed that the umbilical cord was around the baby's neck, so I had to maneuver the baby.” Eventually, the cord was removed and the baby began to cry, indicating that she was going to be fine.
Susana said that her two previous deliveries were also quick, but her new baby girl, Dayana, was by far the quickest!
