One of the first and biggest reality show stars, Kate Gosselin, recently revealed to People that her family's quiet life in their small Pennsylvania town suits them. The kids - twins Mady and Cara, 12, and sextuplets Alexis, Collin, Hannah, Joel, Leah and Aaden, 9 - all attend school, have their own after school activities, and do things all the other “normal” kids do, now without the pressure of fame bearing down on them.
When asked whether she has regrets, the 38-year-old former reality TV star, divorcee, and mom to eight says, “I feel like I’ve lived two lifetimes already. I’m not the same person I was in those first seasons. I don’t even recognize her.” She says even the 10 million fans who witnessed her marriage to Jon dissolving on air have a hard time recognizing the woman that she’s become today.
Although older, and no doubt wiser, Kate says that some things are still a struggle. She reveals that the family’s living “very carefully” these days, with income trickling in from various small projects. “To not have a reliable income is scary,” she shares.
There are some lines she won’t cross, however. Kate has repeatedly turned down offers to appear on camera with Jon, despite maintaining a strained but cordial relationship with her ex-husband. “There are plenty of people who’d do anything to be on television, but I’m not that girl. So everyone who thinks I’m starved for fame should know I do draw the line.”.
The former nurse says that it’s not really an option to go back to her pre-fame career. “I would have to spend all of my income on babysitters," Kate says. “I have to make lightning strike.”
Indeed, the reported former diva is quite humbled by her new life, even recognizing that she wasn't always the easiest to get along with. “I made so many mistakes, of course,” she says, adding, “It feels like a whole other lifetime ago.”
Meanwhile, Jon has taken another path, moving to a secluded cabin in Berks County, Pennsylvania, about a half hour from Kate. He gets visits from the kids one evening a week and every other weekend.
Kate says that despite all of the ups and downs, her family has handled things the best way they can, “They've seen that through it all, we've dealt with it, survived it, and we keep on going.”
