The first family portraits of Kate Middleton, Prince William, and royal baby Prince George Alexander Louis of Cambridge have been officially released — and they do not disappoint!

USA Today says the photos were taken by the Duchess’ father Michael Middleton in the backyard of Kate’s family home. Prince William’s press office revealed on Monday that the family’s first official portraits would be released at 12 a.m. BST on Tuesday, but one of the photos was somehow leaked on Twitter at about 9 p.m. BST. Both portraits were then officially released a few hours later.

The Duke and Duchess look radiant and happy, with Kate in a plum dress and Prince William continuing with the baby blue theme that he introduced at the couple’s first post-baby appearance at the Lindo Wing of St. Luke’s Hospital. Little Prince Georgie is wrapped snugly in a white blanket. It looks like somebody has that swaddling thing down!

Not to be outdone, even the couple’s cocker spaniel, Lupo, gets in on the act, joining in the happy family’s photos. As we suspected might happen, these casual photos are a really big break from tradition. The royal family typically uses professional photographers for official first portraits.

Now that we’ve gotten a taste, we can’t wait to see more pictures of the adorable prince, especially his cute little royal face!
