A shooting was reported this morning at a Georgia Elementary School in Dekalb County. A call was made reporting “shots fired,” and WSB-TV Channel 2 Action News reports that a man reported to be in his early 20s who was allegedly firing an AK-47 inside the school has been apprehended. All students and staff are accounted for and safe.
The gunman reportedly asked a woman in the office of the Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy to call the WSB-TV station and report that there was a shooter there. WSB-TV staff said that shots could be heard over the call.
NBC 11 reports that the school was evacuated and that students were seen running from the school building. A SWAT team was dispatched to the school, and was able to apprehend the suspect, who is now in custody. Parents were asked to pick their children up at a nearby WalMart parking lot.
At this time, all the students and teachers have all been accounted for and are safe, with no injuries reported.
