The Gift of Water is a non-profit organization that helps bring clean drinking water to third world countries, primarily Haiti. In their newest video, they chose to expand their reach across the ocean to Kenya. Their mission: help 4-year-old Nkaitole complete his life’s bucket list.
According to a staggering statistic, this little boy has a 1 in 5 chance of not reaching the age of five, solely because of a lack of clean drinking water in his hometown of Amboseli, Kenya. It’s shocking to see a 4-year-old with no apparent health problems fulfilling so many wishes on his bucket list, but the point of the video is to make people realize that Nkaitole (pronounced Guy-toe-lee) might not be alive next year.
Nkaitole travels from his remote Maasai tribal home all over Kenya to check several items off his list. He gets to see the ocean for the first time, beat the world’s fastest man running on the track, receive his first kiss, get a massage (our little man is ticklish!), and much more. While he looks to be having a ton of fun, that chilling 1 in 5 statistic is always in the back of our minds. He should get his fun in now because time may be running out.
The organization’s video has received tons of great feedback, including almost 500,000 views. One commenter said, “im taking fresh water for granted :( from now on, i will think twice before ANYTHING im doing with the water :/ thanks for this video.”
