Talk about being a star for a day! How about stepping into David Bowie’s shoes, or maybe throwing on Madonna’s lace gloves? These kids got to try it, and the results are stunning.
Photographer April Maciborka has recreated some of the most famous images of pop stars in history using adorable child models.
For her inspiration, April says, “I brainstormed many ideas but love the idea of dressing up. I did it as a child. What child doesn't do it?” She says she chose to depict certain icons because “these people are more famous today then maybe ever. They are icons that are recognized worldwide! How fun to dress children like them!”
To find the models, April says that she looked to agencies for kids who resembled the characters, and also borrowed a few of her friends’ children. She says that all of the kids selected were eager to be photographed and gave her a ton of choices to work with.
To create the shots, April showed each child a photo of who their character was based off of, and then directed them independently. While she handled the costumes by renting and working with a stylist, along with some calculated shopping at stores like H&M and Gap Kids, she says the itchy, uncomfortable wigs were the only real problem with the shoot. Despite this, she says, all of the kids had incredible attention spans and patience.
April says she loves working with kids. “They are so innocent and blunt. They tell you how it is without a filter. Photographers search for that moment of realness all the time.”
April says that her pieces are for sale, and that she is “always open to the idea of being commissioned to do a personal piece." What do you think moms? Do you have a little Elvis or John Lennon at home that you’d like to record for posterity? If so, contact the artist directly for more information.
