I admit I’ve heard about this before, but I’m kind of still in shock. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Masha Lopatova Kirilenko, wife to Brooklyn Nets basketball star Andrei Kirilenko, reportedly allows her hubby of 13 years to have extramarital sex once a year. In other words, he’s allowed to have sex with another random woman once every 365 days.

Note: Masha is not allowed the same privilege. I know what you’re thinking, and I’ll get to that.

Masha’s decision is reportedly based on the fact that her husband is tempted by beautiful women every day, so she allows him to indulge in said temptations once a year, and believes their marriage is stronger for it.

So we’re all human. Whether you’ll admit it or not, you’ve looked at other beautiful people and wondered “what if,” but you do not indulge in relations with another human being because that’s universally wrong. That’s the point of marriage, isn’t it? Just my personal opinion here, but I feel like marriage is a pact to each other that says “I promise to be with you and only you forever and ever and ever.”

If someone needs to indulge in other people while married to keep their marriage healthy, it’s already not healthy! You know when you indulge in chocolate cake while on a diet? You know what they call that? Cheating! That’s cheating on your diet! What’s the difference whether you cheat with a delicious piece of cake on a diet or with a delicious other person while in wedlock?

If you can’t be happy with just one person and you feel the need to explore, even if it’s only once a year, then perhaps you should reconsider your marriage vows.

And if this rant has totally offended you and you are that couple who believe in an open relationship like the Kirilenkos’, isn’t it only right that the woman be allowed the same exploration privileges as the man? I mean, if he gets to taste the forbidden fruit once a year, then hell, I’d want some, too!

Also, side note: What’s to say this NBA guy is sticking to the once-a-year plan? Pizza is my cheat food, and even though I told myself I wasn’t going to have it at all this month, I’ve already had it twice.

I want to know what you think, ladies: Would you ever allow your hubby to sample another lady to keep your marriage strong?
