Move over, Prince Harry, there’s a new godfather in town!
According to the Sun, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have reportedly decided to name one of the royal baby’s godparents, and the lucky winner isn’t a royal or a family member — it’s longtime friend of Prince William, Guy Pelly. If Kate Middleton and Prince William decide to stick with royal tradition, they will name six godparents altogether, so it’s interesting that they have chosen to announce Pelly first.
An old school friend of Prince William and a London nightclub owner, 29-year-old Pelly is an interesting choice for the role of godparent. Typically a parent wants someone in that position who will act as a role model of sorts for their child, and it’s implied that the godparent will give guidance to your offspring if needed. We’re not so sure if club impresario Pelly, who was convicted of drunk driving in 2012 for driving 129 miles per hour on a London street, and has been rumoured to entice both Prince William and Prince Harry to drink heavily on occasion, really says role model.
While it’s kind of strange the the Duke and Duchess haven’t named Pippa Middleton or Prince Harry as first in line to godparent duties, Pelly is reported to be pleased as punch about his new job. While not a royal, Pelly does have royal lineage — his ancestors can be traced to the Earl of Pembroke, according to UsMagazine. A source told the Sun, “He is thrilled to bits about being picked and everyone was congratulating him.”
Who do you think of the royal couple’s choice of godparent for little Prince Georgie, and who do you think will be the next?
