As you may have heard, America’s sweetheart and television journalist extraordinaire Katie Couric has found love, becoming engaged at the age of 56. She’s certainly doing the cougar movement proud!
The host of Katie just announced her engagement to 50-year-old financier John Molner, whom she’s been dating since 2012. While this might not seem like much of an age difference to you, please note that these older woman/younger man pairings are rare, especially among people in the public eye (hello, Clint Eastwood, Adam Baldwin, and Harrison Ford).
In fact, ever since Katie was forced to endure the tragic death of her late husband Jay Monahan from colon cancer in 1998, many of Katie’s paramours have been younger than her, including trumpet player Chris Botti and environmental COO Brooks Perlin. Perlin offered a whopping 17-year age difference. Meow, Katie!
The daytime talk show host isn’t wild about the cougar label herself, however. She had this to say to Parade about the term: "It’s silly and sexist. You don’t hear men who date women 30 years younger being called cougars. What is the equivalent word? There is no equivalent." Good point, girlfriend!
However you want to label it, we’re so happy that Katie’s found love, and that giant diamond ring ain’t bad either! Katie brings with her two daughters — Elinor, 22, and Caroline, 17 — from her previous marriage.
