Moms wear a lot of hats but drug mule is not likely one that many of us have tried on — not real moms, anyway. Daily News reports that 28-year-old Tabitha Leah Ritchie was arrested as she tried to board in Air Canada flight in Bogota, Columbia, for trying to use a fake baby bump to stash more than four pounds of cocaine.
The gig was up when an inspector noticed that her belly was “unusually cold and hard.” The fake belly (which is actually fairly real looking, complete with that line that goes up the middle of many pregnant mother’s bellies) was made of latex and taped to the woman’s torso.
Ritchie, a social worker, reportedly arrived in the country on August 4. The Canadian Embassy in Bogota did not respond to the Daily News’s request for more information, and it’s not clear what charges she’ll face. But, hey, orange is the new black.
Officials have said that nearly 900 foreigners are held in Colombian jails and the majority of them stem from drug charges.
