Any parent whose child has a little “wubby” knows it’s nearly impossible to separate the child from the stuffed animal of choice, so when little Maddie Cross lost her pink fluffy bunny while on vacation, the person who found it knew it must be returned.
According to an article in the Metro, the obviously well-loved bunny was found by Deborah Hitchins in the UK’s Baggy Point – near Broyde Beach in Devon – last week. It was lost by 18-month-old Maddie while her family was on vacation.
When Hitchins stumbled across it, she didn’t wash it and give to another child or throw it away, but she set about finding its rightful owner. And how did she do this? Social media, of course!
Hitchins posted a photo to Facebook that showed the little bunny along with a note that read, “LOST! Please help me find my way home! I was found all alone at Baggy Point Beach – North Devon :-(.” Couldn’t you just cry?
While she knew she had to try, Hitchins didn’t expect the reaction her post garnered. Thirty thousand people shared the picture with friends and family, each of them taking part in getting this bunny back to its owner.
Maddie’s parents couldn’t believe their luck. “When we saw Deborah’s appeal we were gobsmacked. It was so generous,” said mom Sarah. Maddie’s father, Brad, said, “Maddie has now got a big smile back on her face.”
