Man Injects 4-Year-Old Son and Self With Heroin To Spite Soon-to-Be Ex-Wife
A man in Redmond, Washington, sunk to a new low over the weekend when he decided to try to kill his son by injecting him with drugs in order to get revenge on his ex-wife the day their divorce was supposed to be finalized.
The Seattle Post Intelligencer reports that the father, Eric Lehtinen, and his son were found unconscious and locked in the bedroom of his Redmond home by the boy’s mother. Lehtinen had injected himself and the boy with heroin, ketamine, morphine and codeine. According to police, the 37-year-old suspect had a long history with drug dealing and addiction.
The mother, who knew of Lehtinen’s history of drug abuse, was at a job interview at the time of the incident. According to the police, when she returned she “removed a blanket from the little boy to find a syringe apparently filled with drugs on his chest.” The boy was immediately rushed to Seattle Children’s Hospital where he remains in stable, if serious, condition. It’s unknown whether he has suffered long-term damage from having drugs in his bloodstream.
Eric Lehtinen was taken to the hospital, released, and is being held in jail with bail set at $3
million dollars. If convicted, he will face up to 15 years in prison.
The mother had been in San Francisco 10 days prior to the incident, and had returned to the area for a job interview. She told authorities that Lehtinen told her he was not using drugs, and said that while he seemed depressed, she did not suspect that he was using drugs when she decided to leave her son with his father.
