When the 911 call came in from a suburban home in Texas, the Huffington Post reports that Dallas police officer Gene Kimpton entered the home with his gun drawn. The call revealed nothing about what kind of disturbance was happening inside the home, but as soon as Kimpton got to the bathroom, it became apparent that the only struggle was between a pregnant woman and her new baby, who was in the middle of being born.
Kimpton found the woman on the floor giving birth, and although he hadn’t received any instruction on how to deliver a child, his instincts kicked in, he says, and he knelt down to help guide the baby safely into a towel until the paramedics arrived.
“It’s pretty incredible helping a new life into the world, unexpectedly,” Kimpton says.
Neighbors said the mother knew something was going on with her medically, but she had been diagnosed with other issues. Pregnancy never crossed her mind.
The new family was rushed to the hospital and are all doing fine, although the mother and father are both still shocked.
