All we can think of are those movie scenes in which two people embrace and one pulls away with a look of horror on their face, having been shot or stabbed by their foe. This tragic story out of Phoenix probably played out similarly, as a gun holstered in a teen’s pants misfired during a hug, killing his girlfriend.

According to KPHO, an 18-year-old was hugging his 24-year-old girlfriend when the woman complained that the firearm was making her uncomfortable. When the teen attempted to pull it out of the waistband of his pants, it accidentally misfired, hitting the woman. She was rushed to a local hospital where she later died.

Police say the shooting appears to be accidental, although they are still investigating.

We have to ask how the young man got a hold of the gun in the first place, clearly having little education on how to put the safety on or at the very least, how and where to properly holster a gun with live rounds.

This is an incredibly heartbreaking incident and our thoughts are with the families.
