You might recall the story of Madlyn Primoff, the attorney from White Plains, New York, who got arrested for kicking her bickering 10 and 12-year-old children out of the car three miles from their home. As if that weren’t bad enough – how about kicking your child out onto a dangerous freeway at night? That’s what Houston mom Angela Graciela Garcia did, and now she’s behind bars because of it.
According to FOX News, the 34-year-old mother became frustrated with her 10-year-old son, so she dropped him off on the shoulder of the Gulf Freeway (I-45). Police say the boy had been walking for about 15 minutes when they stopped him.
"Making your child walk home on I-45 at 8:30 at night in the dark, in a busy stretch where many fatalities have occurred that is crossing the line," League City Police Officer Reagan Pena told MyFoxHouston. "It's on a major roadway. There are many cars going, it's also a stretch of freeway we've had many fatalities in the last month. The child truly was in danger.”
Garcia had another son, and both kids were reportedly released into the custody of their father later that night.
Garcia was charged with abandoning and endangering a child, and was held at the Galveston County jail on $75,000 bond.
We’ve all been there – you’ve had a long day and the kids are fighting in the car for the bazillionth time. So many of us have probably threatened doing this but, of course, common sense (and good mothering!) keeps us from actually following through.
The mother’s mugshot is certainly pitiful. We’re gathering that she has a lot of remorse over what she did but it’s obviously a case of too little-too late.
