In this charming video, a terminally ill dad in Missouri “wed” his daughter in a special ceremony.

Nicole Nakeol is only 10 years old, and her father Johnny has been struggling with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease for over five years. Sadly, Johnny knows that he probably won’t be around for Nicole’s actual wedding — he will have succumbed to his disease long before then. So he decided to give her a lasting keepsake — a ring to wear until she finds her real husband.

Johnny’s wife told CNN, “His baby is the reason he has stayed alive this long.” She says her husband came up with the idea for the ceremony, in which he gave Nicole a promise ring and urges her to be faithful to her future husband, in order to let his daughter know how much she and her future happiness mean to him.

Nakeol’s mother says the response to the videotaped ceremony from all over the world has been very touching for the entire family to share and experience. In fact, she says they’ve heard from several families who have lost loved ones too early that wish they’d done something similar.

What a lovely thing for a dad to do, and a sad but touching tribute to a young lady and future bride. Our thoughts are with this family.
