Credit: Imgur/Reddit Photo: Sad Boy Can't Go to Zoo Because of Shutdown

We’ve all been hearing the news about the various ways the government shutdown is negatively impacting people all over the country. Some folks aren’t getting paid, security is more lax, our national parks are closed (ruining countless weddings, by the way) and many of our special monuments and buildings, including the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., are closed until further notice.

Just don’t tell this little guy he can’t see the monkeys. The Redditor knows as ‘superbonnie’ posted this heartbreaking photo of this wee friend of the primates (who she says is not her son) who’s clearly been waiting forever to see his favorite animals. Heck, he even wore his special monkey hat for the occasion.

We’re just glad we can’t see the lone tear this guy is probably shedding out of what are no doubt his giant sad panda eyes. According to the comments on Reddit, NBC has already snatched up the photo to accompany a piece on the shutdown. Way to tug at the heartstrings, guys. Congress, can’t you just stop the madness already? Our hearts can’t take it much longer...
